Giving it a try
I've decided to give this autoX thing a try. I've never really done it in the area and was interested in getting involved. I had some questions such as what is involved in getting started and some other fundamental setup questions Such as How long does a typical run last, how many runs a day, etc. I would like to give this a try, does anyone care to fill me in on the mechanics of these events.......
Have turbo, will spool.

First, let me say that AutoXing is alot of fun. Typical runs on a course will run between 30-45 seconds. IIRC, it's fairly normal to see 3 runs in a day. Having a car without much lag (or one where you can easily keep it in the power band) is a big plus. All you need it a helmet that is Snell approved (runs about $120) and your car. Given the mods that you have on your car, I'm guessing you would be in the "street prepared" catagory.
I'm sure we'll hold another AutoX class in the spring, so definitely look out for that. That usually runs about 220$ for the day, but you get about 40 runs in on 4 different courses

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.

Also a note abotu AutoX, its an all day thing, the ones i have been to you run in group 2A. they break you down into A-B so one set is on the course setuping up knocked over cones and what not while the other is running th course. I was about to start this year, but i didnt have enough miles on the car to throw it around safly. I rode with a friend and i would recomend you ride along once to see how much fun it is
I have no idea about the classes to run in but the average price for an Autox is like 20-35$...
good luck

Here is a good starting point
You will possibly be in the SM or Street Modified class. Get ready to run with some serious competition. But either way it's still a LOT of fun and a cheap, safe way to get some track time in. Very community focused it's got a "hometown racer" kind of feel to it. Good times for sure.
hope this helps.

Well, if you really want to go to one soon, there is a abbreviated CDC event in Frederick on Dec. 3. Starts at 9 am, you get 4 runs and it'll be over by about 1 pm or so.gsx-lex wrote:When is the next event? I'd like to start preparing my car.
As for classing, prep, etc., I may know a little bit of stuff.

What mods do you have?
I would highly recommend taking a school w/ Brian Garfield in the spring, I plan to sign my little brother up whenever one is organized.
It depends on the group, whether it is an all day event or just a 1/2 day event and how many runs you will get. If you run w/ Philly or DC SCCA, it is 1/2 day and you work 1 heat and then get 4 runs and you're done for the day. W/ CDC, you normally tech in the AM, work and get 3 runs in the AM and then same in the PM and finish around 4/5pm, or you can do AM only and get 4 runs then. MSCW does 1/2 days and you tend to average closer to 10 runs or more, less people though, crappy lot and no classing or scoring. Cumberland is an all day event, you run the opposite heat that you work in, so if you run in Heat 1, you work in Heat 3 after lunch.
Anyone here want to snowcross or rallycross this winter?

I don't think i can get to the dyno before Dec 3rd, so i might have to wait off until early next year.

You'd go to SM automatically, just because of the CF hood even before any of your other mods. I'd love to see your car sometime, it sounds pretty sweet.

^^^ Your engine mods are what will automatically put you in SM anyway. The carbon hood just let's them tell you that without actually opening it
Saves you and them time, haha.

"classing" rules are pretty funny to me. deleting the SUBARU badge from the trunk puts me into a modified class in SCCA if I'm not mistaken. i don't even care to compete with others, i just wanna drive against my last time out on the track. i dream of hitting the lotto and building my own track so i can race all alone.
now that i type that i am reminded of cartman's "theme park" episode on southpark!
