Engine isn't starting

Post by Sabre »

Well, to follow up Zak's post about odd things...

The 95 Impreza L that I have would not start after I got back from a work trip. I turn the key, hear a click, but the starter doesn't even try to turn. I have checked:
Ignition fuse (as well as any others that I could find related to it).
Voltage getting to the starter (there is 12V going to the starter at all times, I presume it closes the ground loop to start it).
Battery (Replaced it initially thinking that was the problem)

Thoughts:
The starter is bad
Electrical gremlin

Here is the manual for the car.

Anything that I have not thought of?

Sounds like the ignition relay/solenoid.
the key switch hits a relay to close the bigger circuit for the higher current. You would not want your hand to be on the metal key that closes a 300 amp switch.

that link is missing the 6-2 2. ignition key switch section, skips straight to 11cruise control.

Funny you should mention the relay... I couldn't find the one for the ignition! I found tons of others, but not that one. I'm guessing, for whatever reason, that it is in a different place than the rest of them (looked under the hood at the "fuse" box and also under the drivers foot well). I'll go looking tomorrow for it since I won't be home till late tonight.

That is why you need section 6-2.2.

Well, I might do some today, not sure. I just need to find that damn relay/solenoid! NJow the STI has a NASTY exhaust leak... so that might mean that it is header/uppipe time... if it is, I might call on you all, haha.
