Actually, the Intake and AP will only take 1-2 hours for a complete newbie. You have worked on cars before so an intake will be cake. All you need to do is read the instructions and go from there. you need to remove the stock sliencer box (which is in the fender in front of the tire) and most of the stock intake piping. The K&N will then attach to the remaing hose (the one that goes from the turbo to the intake). The K&N also has the heat sheilding so put that on too and you are done. Its really simple. As for the AP, I'd have to deffer you to on of the AP guys here.

Good luck, and if you need any help just ask, we have install days all the time... speaking of, Julian!!! do you have that ungodly excuase for a turbo in yet?

I assume you mean the K&N Typhoon Short Ram Intake (it is not technicaly a "cold air" intake as it does not extend into the wheel well)
And I certainly think the Cobb AP is a solid choice, especially now that many shops are now tuning them.

"Upgrade" is probably not the right word. The AP comes with maps that can be switched or downloaded (say if you add a turbo-back exhaust or a vf30/34 with STi injectors and fuel pump on a non STi WRX). But the only way it can be "upgraded" if you add an intake, or larger IC, headers, ect is to have it tuned with the StreetTuner software either on the road or on a dyno. I'm not aware of any Cobb maps designed with anything other than the stock intake. However, I watched the K&N intake produce the 12 whp and 9 ftlbs of torque on Ultimate's dyno "untuned". I watched the base run than watched the install and watched the next three dyno runs and it was consistantly 10-12 whp and 8-10 ftlbs higher, with no tuning. The intake did take longer to install than I expected, well over an hour.

Mmmmm! 400 whp and 385 ftlbs of sweet turbo goodness!

Forgive me while I chant my mantra:
"Must not be jealous of Julian!" "Must be satisfied with my 260whp!" "Must not buy 06 WRX wagon!"
