Sumthing U don't see everyday, Lancia Scorpion
400 were imported to the US in 1977. This is how mine looked the day I bought it in 1991.
Then I started modding it.
front & rear Montecarlo bumpers; Montecarlo euro-headlights; Montecarlo one-piece nose trim; two piece molded air dam; double-bubble 037 style hardtop roof; Montecarlo series II grill & badges; Lancia logo tire valve caps; Vitaloni baby turbo side view mirrors; body stripped to metal, zinc chromated & sprayed with PPG Testarossa red paint, front and rear hoodpins,
Cromadora 14 inch magnesium Daytona wheels; Abarth red Scorpion wheel center caps; fresh Toyo Proxes R888 205 X 55VR14 racetires; Koni struts all-around; Montecarlo suspension springs all-around; Bremo cross drilled brake discs all-around; Repco Metal-master brakepads; steel-braided brakehoses; brakebooster removed & bypassed; reinforced rear crossmember
Engine has been thru a variety of phases. Have big dual sidedraft carburetor setup for track or a single performance downdraft carb for streetability in Tysons Corner traffic.
Rebuilt 1800cc block with Borgo 9:1 high compression pistons; 40/80-80/40 cams; Guy Croft aluminum intake manifold; twin Weber 45 DCOE carburetors; velocity stacks; Ansa quadtip exhaust & header; aluminum oil filter housing; internal coolant thermostat; PermaCool oil cooler sandwich plate; PermaCool oil thermostat; Serek 13 row oil cooler; Canton stainless steel coolant tank, steel braided coolant, oil & fuel lines; Purolator variable fuel pressure regulator; Carter electric solid state fuel pump; fuel pump anti-theft switch; fuel pressure gauge, ATL aluminium 15 gallon fuel cell mounted in luggage compartment; all air conditioning, heating & emissions devices removed; heavy duty timing belt; Magneti Marreli electronic ignition; dual throttle cables; K & N crankcase vent; Bosch 55 amp alternator with internal voltage regulator; Cool-It CV boot heat shield; Magnecor 8.5 MM Competition ignition wires, NGK racing spark plugs B9EBV, Kent adjustable cam pulleys
Omp Champion racing seats; TRW Sabelt 4 point harnesses; Dino mahogany steering wheel; Dino mahogany shift knob; manual window regulators; dash, center console & doorskins reupholstered; triple gauges added to center console; JVC AM/FM cassette stereo; JVC speakers; Camco floor pedal set; Lancia logo floormat set, mirrored stainless steel engine compartment panels
Mod I have procured parts for but need to install still is Ferrari 360 rear panel w/ Ferrari 360 tailights.
I'd owned 5 of these cars. This one I also extensively modded before selling.

I had never heard of Lancia before last week. I was watching Top Gear, and they did an episode about them. They were saying Lancia should be named the number one car manufacturer. Yours looks pretty amazing.

Thanks. In-laws shop had a Lancia Scorpion there this AM swapping in slotted/crossdrilled rotors and new pads for a customer. Same color as one I owned years ago but only did some minor engine mods before selling to neighbor.Sabre wrote:I had never heard/seen one before!Blixa wrote:gorgeous car. you have quite a nice collection.
and both my modded ones together at my old house.

I'd love to have a Integrale Evoluzione II. Lancias are just awesome cars.

do you ever worry sometimes you may have destroyed one of the original four hundred? this is an honest question, I wonder the same thing when I see people turn split window vette coupes into 6-second cars. like, there's nothing left of what made it special except that window anymore.
oh, and this might offend you, but it does remind me of a Pantera. am I right?

Re: Sumthing U don't see everyday, Lancia Scorpion
No. The car they sent to the US had lousy performance and was ugly. In 1976, the US EPA smog control made the car that was imported here have 40 less horsepower than the European version. Lancia had to install ugly huge bumpers to meet US DOT safety regulations whereas European version looked way better. US DOT required headlights be a certain height so US version had ugly raisable headlights that raised 1 inch. Since it needed to be 2 inches higher, they installed taller suspension springs to meet the requirement. Taller suspension springs made sportscar look like 4x4 ride height and lessened its handling.avriette wrote:do you ever worry sometimes you may have destroyed one of the original four hundred? this is an honest question, I wonder the same thing when I see people turn split window vette coupes into 6-second cars. like, there's nothing left of what made it special except that window anymore.

The US version is a car begging to be modded. Most surviving ones are modded and bring better resale value than the few original ones. Scorpion VIN# 1 is stock and the only one I think is best kept that way.
I'd love to have a Pantera.

Thanks all. Yeah, it was the first time I brought it to cars and coffee. Not a morning person and damn, by 7AM all the prime parking spots are taken.
Here are some pics from Summit Point Sunday.
Hey you! Off the gokart track!
From the Main Track turn 10 tower I could watch the time attack and the rallyx.

Car definitely looked great at the RallyX. Working out in the field (chasing cones) we saw it from a distance and thought it was a ballsy (driving on gras) Ferrari at first.

Modding up Ferrari F50 taillights into Ferrari 360 bodypanel w/ perforated round hole rear center grill like Ferrari Challenge grills for an ass upgrade.
Replaced the cheapo gauges w/ some Autometer gauges.
