The new police lights

Post by snaab »

Have you guys seen the new FFX county cop cars? They are sporting low-profile light bars, that would make them difficult to distinguish from a non-cop car at night.

I know it doesn't help without a photo, but I couldn't find one. Maybe I'll swing by the police station later...

I'm still wary around any plain looking Ford or GM vehicle in this area. Especially if it has a bunch of antennas (or would that be antennae) on it.

Well, there's plenty of non-Ford/GM cars in the fleet anyway.

Just this morning I crested a hill on the County Parkway and was greeted by a cop. Luckily he had already pulled someone over, and I wasn't first in line. It's always good to get that adrenaline rush right before school. Keeps you awake in class.

the cops in my area are bastards. the bought 28 new ford explorers. white. no visible lights. theyre all hidden. unmarked. they even have silver stock-looking rims. the only way ive been able to spot them is

a) there arent that many civilian white SUVs

and

b) their BDU-esque outfits have a bright yellow shield patch ont the sleeve so you can sorta see it..but the windows have a bit of a tint to them so its not 100% reliabe..

they are definetly getting sneakier...

unlike this cop

I like the new light bars because they flash backwards, so folks driving up behind a pull-over know to watch out, but don't flash as much foward, so you don't get blinded from across the median... but yea, those bars are really small, they use the new LED lights so they are crazy bright.

I haven't yet had the (mis)fortune to see them in action.

At least FFX and VA are moving to LEDs vs. strobes, they're bright without being blinding and epilepsy-inducing and stay on longer; no 1/100 sec 0111101111 anymore, instead a variable 010110111 etc to grab attention. Now if the emergency teams could get them also...

Saw them on a FFX county firetruck today on 495, on the way to the BBQ. :)

chuck, pa staties are running w/ the lower light bars too...not sure what the ffx bars look like, but the pa ones are right above the windshield and rear window, and are more or less a bump that contain the leds...
lights, lights, and more lights...

Thank you, Chuck, I knew I could count on you.

And here's to having a mild heart attack every time a police light flashes.
