You might need to replace the anti-fouler on the O2 sensor in the mid-pipe. I know they don't last forever and that one's been on for several years.

Re: 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon
Hi all. Been a long time but I'm still around and the wagon is still running.
I recently failed my safety inspection due to an "exhaust leak" in the turbo/uppipe area. I saw smoke coming from that area when I popped the hood. When I crawled under the car to replace the uppipe, I noticed that I had a torn inner CV boot and grease was everywhere!
I think the exhaust leak that the inspector saw was probably due to grease burning off the downpipe and turbo, but took the opportunity to upgrade to an Invidia uppipe. My wife thinks that this was necessary since I had a "leak" Now that I have the uppipe, downpipe, catback, and intake, do I need a tune? What would you recommend? What is this "open source" that you all speak of?

Yes, you most certainly need a tune.
If you don't want to try to tune it yourself you can buy an OTS map from folks like XPT (http://www.xpttuning.com) or others who do similar work.
Then just have someone with a tactric cable reflash your ecu.

I've busted three right inner front CV boots on the sedan with similar results.

Re: 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon
Hi All,
I'm still alive. The car has sat for a long time since I started a job in DC and it makes more sense for me to bike to work. I save $275 a month on parking or $180 a month if I metro. biking to work = $free.fiddy
Anyhow, I've neglected the car for a while now and simply don't have time to sort it out. I need a recommendation on a good shop to give the car a good once over. It also needs a tune. It's making some strange clunking noises that I suspect are drivetrain related. I'm also looking to bring the car back down to stock ride height. If someone has anything that will work for an 02 wagon, please let me know.
Part of me secretly wants to find out that the repairs are going to be more than the value of the car so I can justify with the boss getting a 2011 wrx hatch

Re: 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon
There is a complete set of 02 wagon struts, springs and top hats in my attic. They have about 20K on them.
However, they belong to Zaxrex, if he has no qualms of you buying them, I can make them available.

20K miles is as good as new on a car with 162K miles

Re: 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon
That is some mileage you gots there.
What do you have now that you are looking to replace? Is it just ride height, or are you getting more bounce? Let me know, I would like something for emergency replacement of the rears if ever needed.
I recommend Bilbo auto in Alexandria off of Eisenhower ave. for all stuff I can't/won't do. Good prices, good work, great people.

Re: 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon
I currently have Forester XT struts/springs and fat tires. I'm looking to go back to stock or slightly lower than stock. I'm also looking for a new set of wheels. I guess I'm just bored with her so it's time to change up the car to bring back that loving feeling.
Here's a comparison of the XT vs stock:

I love my current setup:TRANS4M wrote:Goob.. you want to swap? wheels/tires/suspension? even steven.
Stock struts and Mach V springs with new General gmax as03s
I wondln't trade this setup, but I do have my last saabau's stock suspension with 65K miles on them(may be missing top hats and bumps stops, but I am not sure).
Just snatch up some Mach V springs.
Good thing I can go back for free alignments...These would be nice to combat snowagedon this year!

Re: 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon
I'll need to procure some new tires since my current setup won't fit without the lift.goob_os101 wrote:I love my current setup:TRANS4M wrote:Goob.. you want to swap? wheels/tires/suspension? even steven.

Re: 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon
Take the fat tires off, sell them and go with the General gmax as03s in 205/55/16s on your stock rims!

Yes I will be doing the work. I like my rails. It allows me to transport 2 bikes on top.
