Subaru WRX Concept
The Subaru WRX Concept Is A Rally Fighter For The Common Man
Not sure where the renders came from, but I like it. I hope it's indicative of the next WRX STi and I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope there aren't any hybrid shenanigans...

Re: Subaru WRX Concept
Are you the Subaru WRX Concept for New York?
Autoblog has more images posted with their article.Autoblog wrote:When Subaru dropped a hint about bringing an "all-new performance concept car" to the New York Auto Show this year, we immediately started hoping and praying that a conceptual iteration of the next WRX was in the offing. Looks like that might have paid off. While no official word has yet been written or uttered from Subaru, a French website called Blog Automobile has released a gallery of images that would seem to spill the beans about the WRX Concept.
If the leaked images are correct – and they look awfully complete and well done if they're not – WRX styling is taking a turn for the handsome. The sleek sedan in these images has all of the cues that we've come to expect from our rally-ready Imprezas: a dominating hood scoop and very wide stance with beefy wheels, and seems to miss only the rear wing to fit the perfect WRX stereotype. (And, yes, it should have gold wheels.)
There's no press release to be found, but the source is citing specifications as if it knows what it's talking about. We're told that 275 to 300 horsepower are the likely output of the turbocharged boxer four-cylinder engine, and that brakes with ventilated discs and six-piston calipers are there to haul the all-wheel-drive Scooby down from speed. If our earlier reporting is correct, we might expect to find an electric turbo under that imposing hood, too.
Stay tuned as we scan the web for confirmation about this WRX Concept. We expect that Subaru will have something to say about it, one way or the other, even before its press conference in New York.

Given the features, it sounds expensive already. >_>

Re: Subaru WRX Concept
I don't see any tC in the rear.
I'm being selfish in hoping that it IS a little expensive so that I can get a decent interior (and is that a CF roof? I want that too!).
I want to come back, FHI...

Yes, according to the auto rags/blogs that is indeed a carbon fiber roof.Mr Kleen wrote: is that a CF roof?
I have only one question . . .
. . . wagon?
Or a hatch, I'm not picky.

They put the same treatment on the BRZ for the TAS2013 BRZ Sport Premium Conept. It came with big Brembos, Carbon Roof and the exact same BBS in Black. Will we see anything carbon? No. Will Japan? Prolly.

Re: Subaru WRX Concept
More official photo's and such..
Subaru gave the world a preview of the next-generation WRX today with the debut of the WRX Concept at the New York Auto Show. The next-generation WRX is going to move further away from the Impreza in Subaru's lineup and the bold and muscular design of the concept proves it.
Considerably lower, sleeker and wider, the WRX concept delivers even more street presence than previous generations of WRX. The new grille design is larger and bolder and sets off the classic WRX hood scoop. A pronounced powerbulge provides clearance for the new turbocharged engine and intercooler. A prominent hexagonal grille form and deep lower valences with air intakes are designed to enhance aerodynamics, add downforce and aid engine cooling.
The three dimensional mesh pattern of the grille denotes the sporting nature of the WRX conept and sets the Subaru star cluster apart, while the new hawk-eye headlights integrate the Subaru family design heritage. A sharp character line runs from the front corner through to the taillights, intersected by the boldly flared wheel arches emphasizing the Subaru's AWD system. The compact cabin greenhouse draws attention to the power and solidity of the body and focuses attention to wide stance that provides a visual link between body and chassis.
The rear design echoes the hexagonal design motif from the front grille and features a dramatically curved trunk lid that also acts as a rear spoiler. The distinctive wide rear bumper of the WRX concept adds to the powerful street presence of the car and is off-set by large quad tailpipes denoting the powerful turbocharged engine. The aggressive rear diffuser improves vehicles aerodynamics.
Lastly the concept features a new paint color, "WR Blue Pearl III", which modernizes the iconic WRX look. Fluorescent Yellow is used as an accent on the WRX badge on the front grille, the brake calipers and the exhaust tip finishers, adding character notes to the design.
Subaru didn't provide any details about when the new WRX will debut although it's been reported that it could show up later this year.

Next-gen Subaru WRX STI spotted at the Nürburgring
This better be a mule...Autoblog wrote:Subaru has been busy testing the next-generation WRX STI. Well, it may be the STI. The big wing out back lends some credence to that theory, but it could be that the basic WRX is getting new action in the back section. Time will tell.
In either case, spy photographers nabbed a few shots of the heavily camouflaged sedan running around the Nürburgring. Unfortunately, it looks as if Subaru has taken some of the sexy out of the WRX Concept we saw at the New York Auto Show, leaving this car looking more derivative of the current model than a revolution in design. The bold power bulge has disappeared from the vehicle's hood and the lower fascia looks far more demure than the the wild concept. Likewise, the muscular rear fenders have been toned down substantially.
The result is a car that looks more like a mildly warmed over version of the current model than a production version of the WRX Concept. Still, engineers and designers may have a long way to go before the finished product hits the market, so we'll reserve final judgement for now. After all, the early BRZ mules were nothing short of a travesty to look at, and we know how that turned out. Hope springs eternal.

Re: Subaru WRX Concept
But it looks production ready? WTF Subaru? Stahp!
Look at the fender vents, electric taped STi badge, front grille, boomerang headlights, taillights, rear diffuser, quad exhaust, etc.. It's all production ready to me. Just take off the camo and it will be in the showrooms. I expect to see a mass exodus of people going to clear out the remaining "old" bodystyle stock of WRX and STi's.
Ninja edit: I liken the recent blue prototype WRX/STi car to the STi prototype BRZ. Looks really cool and all but prolly isn't gonna happen and we're gonna get another Impreza based car.

Re: Subaru WRX Concept
No doubt! It looks REALLY production ready under there. If it were a mule, why the wing? Is (was?) FHI just trolling us???
I'm very worried now.

That looks almost exactly like the current impreza with a wing. LOL, PWN3D!!!
I'm kinda glad, platform sharing is what keeps the WRX cheap.

But it also keeps the WRX cheap.
Now maybe I'm being paranoid and overthinking this, but I'm afraid that a cheap ass Impreza WRX deals a serious blow to my dreams of a turbo BRZ. Why choose the ugliest Impreza FHI ever built with a bodykit and giant wing when you could get a very nice looking BRZ turbo?

Re: Subaru WRX Concept
The paint on the concept has a metric ton of metal flake, just this side of a bass boat. Seeing it in person you can tell it's no where NEAR being a running concept. The windows are lexan and looked like they were fixed to the outside of the car. Looks good in person, just doesn't look finished. Sadly, I think we'll see at least another generation of tarted up Impreza before we see anything near this good looking with a WRX badge.
